Vaishu & Aishu have my heart
I don’t quite know why there aren’t any songs in Tamil cinema that showcase the depth of female friendships without having women jumping around, celebrating something wildly. I’m reminded of a friend who writing a screenplay tell me, ‘There are 3 women in the room, emotions are running high, and I have no idea what they will tell each other!’ Some of the strongest relationships I’ve earned in life are female friendships blossoming from the most insane corners – a stranger looking out for me because she knew the guy I was seeing was dating another person and lying to the both of us, a friend’s friend instantly becoming protective about my emotional investment in our mutual friend and his lack thereof of any commitment, girls’ hostel neighbouring bunk bed friend, the junior that ate breakfast off the same plate before the last bell in the mess, one that picked me when she saw me reading a Harry Potter hidden inside my physics textbook, one that I shared share auto rides and headphones with, a bunch of women that gathered over a stupid series of facebook comments, now rigourously cheering me on over the slightest achievement.. If I had an afternoon that I could give someone, I’d give it to my girlfriend without missing a beat, and just sit by, listening, laughing, and knowing that however many times I have and will manage to fuck up, with her, I did good. ** This is the song we were listening to as we shot these. You might enjoy looking at the pictures while listening to this number. Hit play. :)
